Clive Myrie is set to embark on a thrilling new travelogue series that will take him across the diverse landscapes and cultures of Africa. Clive Myrie's African Adventures will be a 10-part series, with each 30-minute episode offering a unique glimpse into the food, fashion, football, art, and vibrant life that defines the African continent. Myrie will visit Morocco, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana, experiencing firsthand the rich traditions, contemporary movements, and local flavours that make each country special.
In Morocco, Clive's journey will be filled with unforgettable encounters. He will ride alongside the Arab world's first all-female motorcycle group and engage with young footballers at the Juventus Football Academy. He will also meet a British writer who left city life behind to settle in Casablanca and restore a traditional Moroccan mansion. Clive will explore the Atlas Mountains, staying in an eco-lodge and learning how Argan Oil is harvested. As always, he will immerse himself in local cuisine, working with a chef at one of Morocco's first fine dining establishments to prepare lamb in the ancient medina. In Tangier, Clive will test his creative side, using a blowtorch to craft his own version of Morocco's famous lanterns. He will also meet a designer dedicated to reviving the traditional Moroccan Kaftan and experience music and culture in a mountain village.
Clive's time in Nigeria will focus on his passion for football. He will join Coach Babaunde's football academy, taking part in training sessions and discovering how the academy balances sport with education. Clive will explore the rise of Chinese-Nigerian cuisine and dive into the vibrant world of Nigerian parties, known as "Owambe," where elaborate food spreads and grand festivities are the norm.
In South Africa, Clive will experience the country's dynamic cultural scene. He will help create murals in Soweto and explore the rhythms of Amapiano music in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town. From the vineyards of the Western Cape to the fruit farms and conservation centres, Clive will get a hands-on look at South Africa's agricultural industry. He will also challenge himself on the rugby pitch and in surf school while reconnecting with old colleagues from his time working in the country. Clive will sample the diverse South African cuisine, from Cape Malay dishes to mastering the art of the iconic braai BBQ.
Clive's African adventure will conclude in Ghana, where he will explore his own family's roots. In Accra, he will experience the modern West African lifestyle, then travel to Cape Coast, where his family's history comes to life. A visit to the Cape Coast Fort, from which tens of thousands of people were forcibly taken to the Americas and the Caribbean, will offer a poignant connection to the past. Clive will also take part in a ceremony to honour his ancestors and receive a Ghanaian name.
Clive Myrie reflected on his excitement for the series, saying: "I was based in Johannesburg working for the BBC more than 20 years ago. It's such an exciting, culturally rich, and diverse continent, and I've always wanted to come back to explore it more deeply. So in this series, I'm travelling from the tip to the toe of this amazing part of the world."
