ITV has officially announced the return of its hit detective drama Professor T for a fifth series, with Ben Miller reprising his role as the brilliant but eccentric Professor Jasper Tempest. The show, which has captivated audiences with its mix of gripping crime cases and quirky character dynamics, continues to build on its success with a new series set to deliver more mystery, humour, and unexpected twists.
Ben Miller, known for his roles in Bridgerton and Death in Paradise, will once again step into the role of the Cambridge criminologist, while Frances de la Tour returns as his formidable mother, Adelaide Tempest. The new series will introduce a fresh dynamic with the arrival of Zoe Wanamaker as Adelaide's sister, Zelda Radclyffe, adding another layer to the professor's complicated family life. Juliet Stevenson also reprises her role as psychologist Dr Helena Goldberg, offering insight into Professor T's unique mind.
Series five will see the return of key characters, including Barney White as Detective Dan Winters, Sunetra Sarker as DCI Maiya Goswami, and Rhian Blundell as Detective Chloe Highsmith. Together, they will face some of their toughest cases yet, including a boxing match turned deadly and a series of unexplained deaths at an exclusive spa. The stakes are set to be higher than ever as the professor and his team navigate personal and professional challenges in six brand-new episodes.
Ben Miller expressed his excitement about the show's continued success, revealing that while fans eagerly await series four, the creative team is already brimming with ideas to make series five even more intriguing. He teased that the upcoming episodes will blend the show's signature crime-solving with unexpected developments in the professor's personal life, promising a season filled with surprises.
ITV's Assistant Drama and Comedy Commissioner, Callum Dziedzic, highlighted how Professor T has developed its own identity beyond the original Belgian series, building a devoted fanbase along the way. Executive Producer Jo McGrath echoed this sentiment, stating that the series continues to grow stronger, with the upcoming instalment set to deliver a dramatic and emotional conclusion to its latest run.
Fans can look forward to series four of Professor T airing later this year on ITV1 and STV, with streaming available on ITVX and STV Player. With series five now confirmed, the future looks bright for this uniquely charming detective drama.
