Sky has released a first-look image from its upcoming six-part limited series The Death of Bunny Munro. Starring BAFTA and Emmy-nominated actor Matt Smith in the lead role, the series is an adaptation of Nick Cave's cult novel. The image also features newcomer Rafael Mathé as Bunny Junior, Bunny's young son.
The series is written by BAFTA winner Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) and directed by BAFTA nominee Isabella Eklöf (Industry, Holiday). Produced by Clerkenwell Films in partnership with Sky Studios, the project also sees Nick Cave, the acclaimed musician, screenwriter, and author of the original novel, taking on the role of executive producer.
Synopsis
After his wife Libby's tragic suicide, Bunny Munro, a sex-addicted beauty product salesman and self-styled ladies' man, is left to care for his young son. Struggling to navigate fatherhood, Bunny takes nine-year-old Bunny Junior on an unpredictable road trip across Southern England, where both grapple with their grief in very different ways.
As Bunny moves from one failed sales pitch to the next while trying to charm every woman he meets, Bunny Junior copes by speaking to his mother's ghost and slowly coming to terms with the reality that his father is not just flawed but completely unmoored. Faced with his own unraveling, Bunny must confront the hard truth that saving his son means reevaluating his outdated ideas of masculinity and what it truly means to be a father.
The Death of Bunny Munro is a bold cautionary tale and a deeply moving exploration of the bond between a father and son.
The series will debut on Sky Atlantic and the streaming platform NOW in 2025.
