Stacey Dooley is back with a brand new documentary that takes a deep dive into the rise of shoplifting across the UK. Stacey Dooley: Shoplifting has been commissioned by BBC Three and iPlayer, and it's set to explore the causes behind the surge in shoplifting, which has reached epidemic levels. With shoplifting now costing businesses a staggering £1.8 billion a year, Dooley is determined to uncover who's behind this increase and why it's become such a widespread issue.

The documentary will look at all angles of shoplifting, from young graduates who feel society owes them more, to the sneaky swipes at self-checkout tills, and those who justify it as a matter of survival. Stacey will spend time with those on the frontlines of the issue – the shop staff who face the daily threat of theft, as well as those who are tasked with stopping it. She'll witness firsthand the extreme measures businesses have been forced to take to protect their stock and meet workers who have endured violence and abuse while doing their jobs.

This project is just one of several that Stacey Dooley has in the works. She's been commissioned for a single documentary and two additional series, following a career that's already seen her tackle major global issues. From child labour to human trafficking, Stacey has built a reputation for investigating tough social issues with sensitivity and a genuine curiosity.

It's no surprise that she's being recognised for her outstanding work. This week, Dooley received the prestigious Trustees' Award at the Grierson Awards, a nod to her contributions to documentary filmmaking. Her journey began in 2008 with Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts, and since then, she's gone on to front over 70 documentaries for the BBC, covering topics like modern slavery, women's rights, and the illegal narcotics trade.

Known for her ability to get up close and personal with the subjects of her films, Stacey has won numerous awards, including the One World Media Award for Face to Face with ISIS, Best Presenter at the 2021 Women in Film and Television Awards, and On-Screen Personality at the 2023 RTS East Awards for Two Daughters. She was also awarded an MBE in 2018 for her services to broadcasting.

Stacey's latest project, Stacey Dooley: Shoplifting, is produced by her own company, Little Dooley, and will air on BBC Three and iPlayer in 2025. Viewers can expect to gain a unique insight into the changing face of modern Britain as Stacey explores a growing epidemic that affects both consumers and businesses.

As Stacey herself puts it, she's incredibly honored to receive the Grierson Trustee Award, and the recognition only fuels her commitment to telling these important stories. Fans of Stacey can look forward to her continued exploration of the issues that shape our world, and Stacey Dooley: Shoplifting promises to be yet another eye-opening addition to her already impressive body of work.
