The iconic British game show Bullseye is making a festive comeback this Christmas, bringing a fresh take to the beloved format with none other than cricketing legend Freddie Flintoff stepping up as the new host. ITV has confirmed that the one-off special will air as part of its Christmas lineup, set to bring nostalgic joy and exciting new gameplay to a modern audience.

Originally launched in 1981, Bullseye became one of the UK's most successful family game shows, famous for its unique combination of darts and general knowledge questions. This year's Christmas edition will stay true to the original spirit, while introducing a new twist on the classic format. Each team will consist of two players: an amateur dart player known as the 'thrower' and their quiz-savvy partner, the 'knower.' Together, they will work in tandem to throw darts and answer questions to rack up points and win prizes.

Flintoff, known for his quick wit and larger-than-life personality, expressed his excitement about joining the show: "I love the darts and Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid. Can't quite believe I'll get to host this Christmas special. You can't beat a bit of Bully!" His enthusiasm is shared by fans and ITV alike, as this marks his return to the broadcaster following his recent ventures on Top Gear.

The special was commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, ITV's Director of Entertainment & Daytime Commissioning, alongside Joe Mace, Entertainment Commissioning Editor. Rawcliffe noted, "Bullseye is back and we can't wait to welcome Freddie Flintoff back to ITV too. It's a real treat to have both as key parts of our Christmas schedule on ITV1 and ITVX this year." The show will be produced by 12 Yard Productions, with Paul McGettigan, their Head of Entertainment, as Executive Producer.

12 Yard Productions' Managing Director, Michael Mannes, expressed the production company's pride in reviving the classic show: "We are delighted to have acquired the rights to Bullseye, one of the most iconic game shows ever. And the timing could not be better considering the popularity of darts. Freddie is the perfect host for it and we can't wait for the show to be back on ITV."

The Christmas special promises a perfect mix of nostalgia and festive fun for both long-time fans of the show and new audiences alike. With Flintoff at the helm and the timeless appeal of darts, Bullseye looks set to hit the bullseye again this Christmas.

Be sure to tune in to ITV1 and ITVX this festive season for an hour of laughs, throws, and exciting prizes!
