Sky has announced that "The Penguin," a highly anticipated drama series starring Colin Farrell, will be available exclusively on Sky and the streaming service NOW. This eight-part series, a continuation of the crime saga initiated by filmmaker Matt Reeves in "The Batman," is set to premiere later in 2024.
Farrell reprises his role as the titular character from the blockbuster film, "The Batman," which has garnered a global fanbase. "The Penguin" will offer UK comic enthusiasts the opportunity to join the worldwide excitement, with episodes airing simultaneously with the US and available on demand thereafter.
The series boasts a stellar cast alongside Farrell, including Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O'Connell, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen.
Behind the scenes, the series is supported by a strong executive production team featuring Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, and Lauren LeFranc, who also serves as the showrunner and writer. Craig Zobel, who directs the first three episodes, Bill Carraro, and Daniel Pipski complete the executive production lineup. The series is produced by Reeves' 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television.
Lucy Criddle, Sky's Director of Acquisitions and Strategic Projects, expressed her enthusiasm about the series: "The Penguin is an outstanding addition to our growing comic slate of films and series. With the grimy world of Gotham City amidst chaos, the story continues The Batman epic crime saga, and I'm excited to see Farrell take this iconic character to new heights in this eight-part limited drama series."
Sky and NOW subscribers can currently enjoy a variety of comic book adaptations, including "Justice League," "Wonder Woman," and "Suicide Squad." "The Penguin" will add to this extensive library, promising to deliver a gripping narrative set in the chaotic world of Gotham City.
"The Penguin" will debut exclusively on Sky Atlantic and NOW later this year, ensuring that fans do not miss out on what is poised to be a compelling continuation of Gotham's dark and gritty underworld.
