Nobody ever gets sick in China. Okay, that would be true if Eastern Medicine were actually worth a monkey's ass. But here’s the truth: sticking acupuncture needles in your feet will not cure your asthma; the Chinese practice of cupping does nothing more than leave ugly red marks on your back; and the Japanese “art” of reiki won’t channel your spiritual energy for healing – it’ll just channel your money into the reiki “artist’s” pocket.
At least Tiger Penis soup tastes delicious, even if it – like all the other Chinese herbal potions – doesn’t cure a damn thing. We're taking down the charlatans who prey on the seriously ill with this unproven, unscientific, and unbelievably dumb type of "medicine."
A CLAIRVOYANT has been banned from claiming she could cure everything from witchcraft to depression . . . because she can't prove it.
Sister Charlotte, a successful crystal ball, tarot card and palm reader from Chorlton, Manchester, claimed to be able to solve problems in love, marriage, business, exams and even immigration.
The Advertising Standards Authority challenged her to prove it. When she couldn't, it ordered her to tone down her extravagant ads.
The ASA have upheld a complaint against The Harborough Asthma and Eczema Clinic for Kids and Julia Wilson.
"We considered the ad was irresponsible, because it was likely to dissuade consumers from seeking medical advice about asthma and eczema by suggesting that conventional medicine was less effective than homeopathy in treating those conditions."
"Because Archway House were unable to provide signed and dated proof that the testimonials were genuine, or independent evidence of their accuracy, we concluded that they were misleading."
The following snippet of information about Gary Mannion (see www.badpsychicsgarymannion.co.uk for further details) recently appeared in “Psychic News”:
Gary is also taking part in research with Dr Harry Oldfield, which involves various tests including work on brain functions.
"When I worked with him, my brain produced multiple waves which is evidence of spirit," he [Gary] claimed...”
Oldfield’s name rang a bell but I couldn’t quite place it at first. Then I remembered – our own Tom Roberts, in his UK-Skeptics persona of “bindeweede”, recently quoted a New Age website which linked Oldfield’s name with Gary’s. With the help of microbiologist Tom Irving I did a bit of research into Dr Oldfield’s work, and it soon became abundantly clear why he was so eager to be impressed by Gary’s multiple brain waves...
"This is part 5/6 of a TLC series "Unmasked-Exploring the Secrets of Deception" This part shows the truth on how Psychic Surgeons do their so called operations. Just more sleight of hand stuff."
Potentially as DANGEROUS as the Funnel Web Spider!
HARDER ON YOUR WALLET than a whole barrel of the Amber Nectar!
I refer to Aussie “healer” Rosemary Edwards, a woman whose slick and well-designed website (nsr-energyhealing.com) is a compendium of more worthless New Age treatments than you can throw a boomerang at.
Does the name Lynda Jakiro ring a bell? Yes, she was third from the left in this lineup of "healers" dispensing Abraham Body Energy:
Aren't those matching t-shirts cute? But Lynda isn't merely a Mannion associate, she has a magic wand. And she's not afraid to use it! It's time for a closer look at "Lynda Jakiro NAET, EFT Adv. Allergy Therapist"
Many thanks to farsideofthemoon and bindeweede/tomroberts for bringing this to my attention over on UK Skeptics.
Narrated by Dweezil Zappa, and featuring expert opinion from the man the legend James Randi, this is an excellent documentary taking a look at lots of alternative medicines, and practices.
Includes Alternative Plastic Surgery, Body Modification, Acupuncture, Spiritual Healers, Alternative Healing and Psychic Surgery.
The documentary has been split up so you can watch the parts you are most interested in, or the whole thing.
Do you ever get that ‘dirty’ feeling when you see something? I don’t mean dirty as in naughty, I’m talking about dirty as in ‘unclean’ and ‘violated
Anyway, on another note, I thought I would check in on Andrew McKellar…. the ‘healer’. "andrewmckellar.com"
If you remember I had had a look at McKellar some time ago following his complete disregard of The Cancer Act 1939 by claiming he can cure cancer.. Not only did he claim to cure cancer but he also had a ‘Testimonial’ from one of his ‘patients’ on his site whom he claimed to have cured. I found, with a little research, that this particular patient had actually died shortly after, of cancer. Yet McKellar still used this gentlemans ‘testimonial’ to peddle his services.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Decency has left the building"
When not performing his favourite Elvis or Buddy Holly songs or combing his quiff, Andrew McKellar is curing the incurable.
andrewmckellar.com (best to use 'Wayback' to view his 'Tributes', his current site relies heavily on flash graphics and its easier to read the 'text only' sites)
McKellar has quite obviously never heard of the Cancer Act 1939:
"The Advertising Standards Authority is the independent body set up by the advertising industry to police the rules laid down in the advertising codes.
The strength of the self-regulatory system lies in both the independence of the ASA and the support and commitment of the advertising industry, through the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP), to the standards of the codes, protecting consumers and creating a level playing field for advertisers"
The North Shrewsbury Community Church is the latest relgious group to find themselves in breach of the law, their claims of healing attracted complaints of which the ASA have now acted.
The news that the number of prescriptions for homeopathic medicines written by GPs in England has nearly halved in just two years coincides with the 20th anniversary of a seminal scientific paper on the subject.
Twenty years ago, in the summer of 1988, the science world was rocked by one of the most controversial research papers ever published in the highly-respected journal Nature.
Professor Edzard Ernst is the first Professor of Complementary Medicine in the United Kingdom, yet he is not some woo merchant, instead he has for years investigated and tested various alternative medicines.
Well now Professor Edzard Ernst is putting up £10,000 to be given to the first person who can show homeopathy is better than a placebo in a scientifically controlled trial.
Newsnight decided to investigate Homeopathy, so they choose 10 random Homoepaths from the internet, 10 out of the 10 they choose gave murderously stupid advice on Malaria prevention.
Spokesperson Melanie Oxley is invited onto Newsnight to defend Homeopathy, but as a homeopath herself she ends up making herself look stupid and uneducated.
Luckily sceptic and scientist Simon Singh is on hand to give a rational and intelligent viewpoint.
Do you mistrust your own decisions? Are you feeling guilty? Perhaps you can be intolerant or feel impatient. Are you unwell? Suffer from asthma?
Well, if I told you four drops of brandy taken in water throughout the day could cure your mental turmoil and thus let your body heal itself would you believe me? What if I said it was special brandy that had a drop of water in which a flower had been floated added to it? Or a twig. Still not convinced?
"Healing cancer. Naturally!" is a website designed and written by Ursula Schmid of Berlin, Germany. Through the site she aims to provide "an all-round 'holistic' view of the many natural ways that have been used to heal cancer."
"Healing cancer. naturally!" is at the top of search engine lists should you search for "healing cancer" or anything similar, yet a closer inspection of the site shows that it is infact full of very dangerous information.
The third member of the UUKPS triumvirate of founder members is Andy Porter, who is also a professional soul rescuer.
Of the three founder members of the Unity of UK Psychic Surgeons only one is a virtually unknown quantity - Andy Porter. Gary Mannion and Nina Knowland have hogged the limelight for long enough, let's give Andy a chance!
His website (andy-porter.co.uk) is a bit short on biographical details, but he wastes no time in introducing his readers to the wonderful world of psychic surgery:
It's not often I am provoked into writing an article because 'I'm not allowed to get my point across', but EssexSpiritGuide.co.uk have left me little choice.
There are not many things in this life that annoy me, (he lied) but 'censorship' is one of them. To see a situation where only one side of the story is put across, all others are deleted as it 'upsets the applecart', is, for want of a better word, pathetic.
Dutch newspaper the Volkskrant today revealed that so called "Healing Medium" Jomanda is to be prosecuted over the death of Dutch actor and comedian Sylvia Millecam (February 23, 1956 – August 19, 2001).
Sylvia Millecam was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, she did visit regular doctors, but she choose to ignore regular treatment and instead decided to visit several alternative healers, including Jomanda.
The founder members of the UUKPS: Gary Mannion, Andy Porter and Nina Knowland
Looking for an authentic, ethical psychic surgeon? A new organisation rejoicing in the name of the Unity of UK Psychic Surgeons may be able to help you. But a closer look at the UUKPS reveals some familiar faces...
Madeline Neumann, a young girl of just 11 years old has died from diabetic ketoacidosis after her parents choose to pray for her instead of getting her treated for her condition by doctors.
This story has had people reacting furiously around the world. How the parents of an innocent child could just callously stand by and allow this poor girl to go through over 30 days of nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness, until her body eventually just gave up and she died.
Exposing New Age charlatans can be a frustrating business. E-mails to newspaper editors, trading standards authorities, MPs, doctors and scientists tend to go unanswered for weeks or are ignored completely, as are phone messages left on answering machines. But perseverance DOES pay off, as BP has discovered this week.
You may remember that a testimonial from "Rodger Andrews", insinuating that his terminal cancer disappeared two days after being treated by Gary Mannion, recently appeared on two of Gary's sites. I reported what seemed to me to be a breach of the Cancer Act to Gary's local Trading Authority, Brent and Harrow. It took some time to get a reply but in the meantime Gary toned down the wording of Andrews' testimonial on garymannion.com. I suspected that someone from Trading Standards must have had a word in Gary's ear, and sure enough an e-mail from Winston Brooks of Brent and Harrow TS confirmed that this was the case - Gary had been given a verbal warning.
Homeopathy is becoming the highest profile victim of the Government’s drive to promote cost-effective use of NHS resources, with PCTs across the country stopping funding for the controversial treatment.
