The BBC has released first-look images for its upcoming psychological drama "Dead and Buried," a four-part thriller featuring an all-star cast led by Annabel Scholey and Colin Morgan. Set to air this autumn on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer, the series promises to deliver a gripping narrative of obsession, revenge, and psychological warfare.
Synopsis
"Dead and Buried" centers around Cathy, played by Annabel Scholey (known for her roles in "The Split," "The Serial Killer's Wife," and "The Salisbury Poisonings"), who encounters Michael, portrayed by Colin Morgan (famous for "Humans," "Belfast," and "Merlin"), outside a supermarket with her young son. Michael is the man convicted of brutally murdering Cathy's brother two decades earlier. Despite her best friend's warnings, Cathy becomes consumed with discovering the life Michael has built for himself following his early release from prison. Her obsession with his successful career and family life triggers a campaign of harassment and deceit, blurring the lines between reality and dark fantasy as she seeks vengeance.
Cast and Crew
In addition to Scholey and Morgan, the series features a talented ensemble cast including:
Kerri Quinn ("Hope Street")
Waj Ali ("Carnival Row")
Owen Roe ("Vikings")
Niamh Walsh ("The Sandman")
Micheal Hanna ("He'll Have to Go")
Joanne Crawford ("Blue Lights")
"Dead and Buried" is produced by Three River Fiction and Vico Films, with support from Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, and Coimisiún na Meán. The series is written by Colin Bateman ("Murphy's Law," "Doc Martin") and directed by Laura Way ("Maxine," "Blood," "The Holiday").
Production and Filming
Filming took place earlier this year across various locations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, capturing the dramatic landscapes and setting the tone for this intense psychological thriller. The series was commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland and Virgin Media Television in association with All3Media International.
Executive Commentary
Eddie Doyle, Head of Commissioning for BBC Northern Ireland, and Sinead Stimpfig, Head of Commissioning & Acquisitions for Virgin Media Television, jointly commissioned the drama, emphasizing its regional significance and the collaborative efforts that brought it to life.
Expectations
With its first-look images generating buzz, "Dead and Buried" is set to be a must-watch for fans of psychological thrillers. The series delves deep into themes of trauma, revenge, and the complex interplay between victim and perpetrator, promising to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Stay tuned this autumn for what promises to be an unforgettable journey into the darker corners of the human psyche. "Dead and Buried" will air on BBC One Northern Ireland and will be available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.
